Looking for a way to connect as well as read and write in Bambara, Jula or Maninka?

Join the An ka taa Forum’s Study Space for students!

🤨 Forum?

The An ka taa Forum is public space for speakers and learners of Manding to connect and build knowledge about the language through asynchronous written conversation.

It is broken up into various categories for discussions related to Manding as well as a few AKT projects (i.e., documenting Manding language media, collecting content requests), etc.

🧐 Study Space?

The Study Space is a special private category within the Forum.

It can only be joined by subscribers and private lesson students of AKT.

It is meant as a place for students to read, write and connect in Manding whenever is convenient.

🙋‍♀️ Ok! But, why?

Because in addition to the formal study of a course, learning a language is easier and faster if you have:

  • Contact: Regular real-life moments where you read or write the language

  • Conversation: While speaking face-to-face is ideal, not everyone has someone that they can speak to “in real life” or “in real time” (such as in the AKT Community Discord). The Study Space makes it such that you can correspond via written Manding whenever is convenient!

  • Community: Sharing the learning experience with other people helps keep you motivated and stick to your plans

Unless you live in West Africa or have friends and family members that are native speakers, “Contact” and “Conversation” can be hard to find in an online course. And, without an appropriate digital space, it can be hard to connect and build “Community” with the other students.

Questions

Is the Study Space for a particular course or level? No, it's a single place for any An ka taa students (in the Beginner Bambara Course, Intermediate Subscription, or taking private lessons, etc.) to meet, practice Manding, and help one another.
How is the Forum's Study Space different than the AKT Community Discord Server? The Discord Server is immediate and synchronous, while the Forum is gradual and asynchronous. Discord is a chat space that is great for real-time problem-solving and socializing. The Forum is great for thoughtful discussion that can joined at anytime.
Does Coleman do lessons in the Study Space? No. I don't formally give lessons or teach in it, but I do participate by creating topics and writing posts :-)
